Address
1 Coombe Road
New Malden
Type of Place:
Train station fast food. You'd eat here if your train was delayed and you were hungry, or if you were an inconsiderate person who would eat spicy, pungent food on a crowded commuter train. You insensitive brute.
Food:
If you find yourself eating here, that means you're hungry enough that it'll taste OK. It's hot and edible, anyway.
The sushi is really the only concession to Japanese cooking; everything else is basic Korean served in plastic. Dup bap figures highly, i.e. 'rice with something on it'. Ingredients appear to be sourced about where your local zero-star Chinese takeaway gets them. But this isn't supposed to be great food, it's supposed to be train station food, and by the standards of UK train stations it's among the best. Also you get a FREE plastic fork!
Atmosphere:
Atmosphere? It has the atmosphere of a TRAIN STATION. However, New Malden is quite a nice train station and sometimes when the train is late (which happens often) and it's raining (which also happens often) a bit of comradeship builds up among those who get something to eat while they wait.
Service:
Service can be a bit slow when the queue builds up but the old lady who works at the front is nice. There's also an old guy who works in the back and a delivery driver.
Unique Point:
It's probably the smallest Korean restaurant in London.
